Blue Batak comes all the way from the indigenous Batak tribe in Indonesia. They grow coffee at the southern tip of the largest volcanic crater lake in the world. The volcanic soil is so rich and fertile that the Batak have a saying “You can put a chair in the ground, and it will become a table”.

The Giling Basah, known as wet hulling is a processing technique unique to Indonesia. Every stage is completed by hand. The coffee is first fermented overnight in bags, then dried on patios where it takes on a deep blue-greenish colour, before being hulled. This process contributes the brilliant body and complexity associated with Indonesian coffees.

Blue Batak is a coffee to savour. It’s one for the slow mornings. Pour a cup, sit down and let the flavours unfold before you. You can expect rhubarb and cranberry notes in the cup with significant depth and citrus acidity.
